Job Description:

As the Underwriting Manager based in Luxembourg, you will play a key leadership role within our international insurance operations, driving the success of our underwriting function and ensuring alignment with our strategic goals. You will work closely with Product Managers, IT experts, and Underwriters to develop innovative insurance solutions that meet the evolving needs of our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Risk Assessment & Evaluation: Lead the underwriting team in evaluating risks for potential and existing clients, ensuring all underwriting decisions align with the company's risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
  • Partnership Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners, including brokers, reinsurers, and strategic partners, to support business growth and manage risk-sharing agreements.
  • Product Development: Collaborate with Product Managers and IT teams to develop, enhance, and roll out new insurance products that meet market demands and client expectations.
  • Pricing & Profitability: Oversee the pricing of insurance products, ensuring competitive yet profitable offerings. Continuously monitor product performance and adjust pricing models to maintain financial sustainability.
  • Supervision & Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of underwriters, ensuring their professional development and adherence to underwriting guidelines. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all underwriting activities are compliant with local and international regulations, including those specific to Luxembourg.
  • Performance Monitoring: Analyze portfolio performance, identify trends, and implement strategies to optimize profitability and growth.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with IT experts to implement digital solutions that enhance underwriting efficiency and accuracy. Facilitate communication between departments to ensure seamless delivery of insurance products and services.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in underwriting, ideally within an international insurance environment.
  • Strong understanding of risk evaluation, pricing, and product development.
  • Experience in managing partnerships and external relationships.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to manage and mentor teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working cross-functionally with IT and Product teams.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with a focus on profitability and risk management.
  • In-depth knowledge of the insurance industry, including relevant regulations in Luxembourg and international markets.
  • Proficiency in relevant underwriting and insurance software.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in underwriting, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Professional certifications such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or equivalent are advantageous.
